How to receive a massage and get maximum value from your session
You will get the most out of your massage if you prepare a little before arriving for your appointment. Here are some suggestions that will assist you in getting full value from your session:
It is the mind that holds on to stress and tension in the body, so it is important that the mind feel safe and secure enough to be able to let go of control and stop its mental chatter. Prior to your appointment take care of any business that might otherwise prey on your mind during your session. Arrive for your appointment feeling confident that the world will be able to carry on without you for a while. Tell the people in your life that you are not available until a certain time. Write a "To Do" list for after your session, if you have to. You'll be able to get back into action soon enough, but for a little while it's okay to just "be". We are afterall human beings, not human doings. This is your time; time to unplug from the world in order to be able to return to it refreshed and rejuvenated.
As soon as you get on the massage table start to take long, slow, rhythmic breaths, and continue to do this throughout the massage. You may want to count as you breathe - inhaling for a count of 4, and exhaling for a count of 6 is recommended. Counting redirects the mind and gives it something to think about other than its current concerns. Rhythmic breathing both before and during your session will assist both the mind and the body to let go. This in turn will help to integrate the benefits of the work received, and make them more sustainable over time.
The best massages are the silent ones. Although we will converse with you if you initiate a conversation with us, it is preferable that there would be very little or no conversation during your session. Talking keeps the mind active, and that is the opposite of what we are aiming for.
It is best to let your body be as limp as possible during your session, and to let us move you if we need to. Trying to assist, or anticipate what may be required is not optimal. Nothing is required of you... That's the beauty of massage.
In order for us to get a sense of the type of bodywork that would best suit your needs, it is helpful if you make a list of the benefits you wish to receive from your session. Bring it with you when you come.
Ideally you would schedule your masssage appointment for a time that would allow you to relax afterwards. After your massage you won't feel like getting right back into action; you'll want to enjoy the feelings of well-being that your massage will bring.
Please feel free to communicate any concerns you may have, at any time during your massage. Let us know if you would like the temperture in the room to be adjusted, if you would like the music to be changed, or if you would like us to adjust the pressure of your massage. Anything at all that is a concern of yours should be expressed. Communications like these are very helpful to us.
We do our best to provide nurturing environment, so that everyone who comes to us can feel safe, secure and free to be their authentic selves. Our aim is to make a difference in the quality of people's lives.
